Authorities Seize €9.8M from Swiss Company in Mercury Trade Case
Authorities have successfully seized €9,815,426.92 from a Swiss company following a court ruling in Essen. This action is linked to the illegal trade of mercury between 2011 and 2013, involving around 1,000 tons. The perpetrators, who previously sold the mercury on the world market instead of disposing of it properly, have already served their sentences.
The seizure is part of ongoing efforts to strip criminals of their illegal earnings, as permitted by legislation. The Regional Court of Essen ordered the seizure upon application by the specialized public prosecutor's office in Bochum. Despite the ruling, the specific Swiss company involved remains unidentified in available search results.
The illegal trade, which occurred between 2011 and 2013, involved the sale of approximately 1,000 tons of mercury. Instead of proper disposal, the mercury was sold on the world market, generating millions in profits for the perpetrators.
The seizure of €9,815,426.92 serves as a significant blow to the illegal mercury trade and sends a strong message to potential offenders. Authorities continue to work diligently to deprive criminals of their illegal earnings and maintain the integrity of global markets.
