Austria Unveils €360M Climate Plan: 30,000 Heating System Replacements Annually
In a significant move to boost sustainability and support households, the Austrian government has announced a comprehensive climate-friendly heating systems and building renovation package. The €360 million annual investment, set to start in November 2025, aims to create over 8,800 'Green Jobs' and generate an annual regional value of over €1.4 billion.
The 'Renovation Offensive Neu' is at the heart of this initiative, aiming to facilitate 30,000 climate change mitigation heating system replacements annually. This program comprises two key areas: boiler exchange for climate-friendly heating systems and a renovation bonus for buildings over 15 years old. To support more households and businesses, the maximum funding rate has been reduced from 75 to 30 percent of costs. Vienna is supplementing federal funding with its own measures, including free renovation consultation and express procedures for frequent individual measures. Registration starts in mid-November 2025, with boiler exchange measures recognized retroactively from 3 October.
The climate activism standard is increasingly influencing real estate valuation and financing. Over 1,900 Austrian buildings have already been certified, reflecting the growing importance of sustainability in the sector. Vienna has declared 2025 the 'Year of the Circular Economy', promoting the recycling of construction materials and digital sustainability measurements.
The Austrian government's record package for climate-friendly heating and cooling systems and building renovation is set to transform the country's energy landscape. With the 'Renovation Offensive Neu' and Vienna's commitment to the circular economy, Austria is taking significant strides towards a sustainable future, creating jobs and stimulating regional value creation.
