"At CES, the Continental Show has debuted a boundary-pushing innovation: a frameless screen featuring face biometric authentication technology."
At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, Continental has introduced an innovative two-stage access control system called the "Face Authentication Display." This system, presented as part of a private exhibition on the Central Plaza opposite the Las Vegas Convention Center, offers a secure and user-friendly approach to vehicle access and control.
The system, developed in collaboration with Alcatraz AI, utilises biometric face authentication for keyless entry and engine start. As soon as a registered user approaches the vehicle, an external display, only visible when in use, illuminates to show the charging progress of an electric car in a visually impressive manner.
The system employs special camera systems mounted externally on the vehicle's B-pillar and invisibly behind the driver display console. These cameras check for a visual match with a known user and can distinguish real skin from other materials, providing an additional layer of security against unlocking the vehicle using a fake mask or AI-generated images.
Once the user is authenticated, a camera integrated into the interior checks whether the person in the driver's seat is authorised to start the vehicle. This ensures the highest security standards in both the exterior and interior.
The high-contrast and bright OLED display, specially adapted to detect people through the pixels of the activated display, is seamlessly integrated into the B-pillar. An additional display integrated into the same location allows the user to interact with the vehicle, and other digital services, such as a payment function, also have this feature.
The "Face Authentication Display" system also includes sensors for reliable attention and fatigue detection, ensuring a safer driving experience. Continental's latest technologies, from the road to the cloud, are on display at CES 2024.
The "In2Visible" technology developed by Continental is being used in vehicle exteriors for the first time in this system. When not in use, the display is not visible and can be fully integrated into any design concept. This innovative approach to display technology is set to revolutionise the way we interact with our vehicles.
