Catch Up on the Dish: Hormel Foods' Q2 Earnings Just a Stone's Throw Away

Get the lowdown on what's cookin' at Hormel Foods Corporation (HRL), that Minnesota-based titan in the meat, nut, and food product game. With a market cap of a whopping $16.2 billion, this diversified food powerhouse peddles its mouth-watering munchies under popular brands like HORMEL, APPLEGATE, and CAFÉ H, among others. But what's on the menu for fiscal Q2 2025? Keep reading to find out!

Analysts are calling for a profit of $0.35 per share on a diluted basis when HRL unveils its fiscal Q2 earnings this coming Thursday, May 29. That's a 7.9% dip from the $0.38 per share they reported during the same period last year. Keep your eyes glued to the screen, as HRL has occasionally topped those estimates, but it's also had its fair share of misses.

The business bigwig is expected to put out full-year EPS of $1.61, up 1.9% from $1.58 in fiscal 2024. The company expects its EPS to rise 10.6% year over year to $1.78 in fiscal 2026.

Over the past 52 weeks, HRL's shares have slid a disappointing 16.4% compared to the 8.7% gains of the S&P 500 ($SPX) and the 7.1% gains of the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP). The struggles can be chalked up to profits decreasing in retail and foodservice sectors, declining volumes across all business units, and escalating expenses. Moreover, the company has grappled with ongoing snack nuts supply issues that have further hampered its performance.

Fast forward to Feb. 27, when HRL felt the heat after reporting its fiscal Q1 results. The adjusted EPS of $0.35 fell short of Wall Street expectations of $0.37, but the company's revenue of $3 billion came in above forecasts of $2.94 billion. For the year, HRL anticipates adjusted EPS within the range of $1.58–$1.72, and revenue in the range of $11.9–$12.2 billion.

Wall Street's verdict on HRL is a mixed bag, with a "Hold" rating majority-wise. Out of the nine analysts scrutinizing the stock, two give a "Strong Buy" rating, six advise a "Hold", and one dishes out a "Strong Sell". If you're eager to dip your toes into the HRL pool, the average analyst price target is $32.28, implying a potential upside of 9% from the current levels.
