Andhra Pradesh will transform into a Hydrogen Hub, as per the announcement made by Honourable Chief Minister Sri Chandrababu Naidu at the Green Hydrogen Summit held in 2025, SRM AP.

The Green Hydrogen Summit 2025, held on July 18-19 at SRM University-AP in Amaravati, marked a significant milestone in India's clean energy journey. The event was jointly organised by SRM University-AP, Government of Andhra Pradesh, IIT Tirupati, IISER Tirupati, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India, New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd., and the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tamil Nadu.

Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Policy

During the summit, Andhra Pradesh unveiled its Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Policy, aiming to invest around Rs 10 lakh crore and create 7.5 lakh jobs in this sector. The policy emphasises the development of a circular economy for sustainable development, leveraging the state's key assets such as vast coastlines, well-distributed ports every 50 km, and a conducive industrial environment. The state's goal is to achieve Net Zero emissions by leveraging green hydrogen and ammonia technologies.

Green Hydrogen Valley Concept

Amaravati is envisioned as a Green Hydrogen Valley, combining production, storage, utilization, research, and policy innovation. The valley will leverage cutting-edge research, commercial scaling strategies, and infrastructure to become a global hydrogen innovation hub. The summit, which gathered policymakers, industry leaders, and global experts, aimed to map this future.

Green Ammonia and Industry Developments

The summit saw collaborations and MoUs such as between UK-based Yamna and Andhra Pradesh’s renewable energy agency NREDCAP for developing mega-scale renewable projects including a 1 million tons per annum green ammonia facility. Green ammonia serves as a clean energy carrier and fertilizer input, playing a vital role in the state’s sustainable industrial plan.

Summit Highlights

Discussions at the summit covered challenges in hydrogen production, storage, utilization, and commercialization strategies to support hydrogen projects. The event aimed to support India’s national hydrogen mission and integrate green hydrogen as a pillar for energy independence and carbon emission reduction.
