Alstom set to trim employee numbers in Dreis-Tiefenbach location
Alstom, a French train technology manufacturer, has announced plans to cut jobs at its Dreis-Tiefenbach site in Germany. The job reductions are part of a larger strategic reorganization aimed at improving efficiency and focusing on future growth areas.
The job cuts will primarily affect around 130 out of the current 730 jobs at the site, with the process scheduled to be completed by 2027. This decision comes in response to a low workload at the plant and the need to realign the Alstom group with changing market demands and customer requirements.
Alstom's Dreis-Tiefenbach plant has been a significant contributor to the company, developing and producing bogies for rail vehicles. However, the company is now shifting its focus to maintenance and repair of these bogies, reflecting a trend towards high-value manufacturing and customer-centric solutions.
The job cuts are not a result of operational reasons, and Alstom has assured that no employees will be dismissed for this purpose. Instead, the company is aiming to streamline production, eliminate redundancies, and optimize operations to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
Looking ahead, Alstom plans to invest in innovation, digitalization, and sustainable technologies. The company aims to strengthen its capabilities in digital rail solutions, including predictive maintenance, automation, and smart mobility. Alstom is also prioritizing the development of environmentally friendly rail transport systems, such as hydrogen and electric trains.
This strategic reorganization is part of Alstom's commitment to future-proofing its operations by concentrating on innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation in the rail industry. The company employs around 86,000 people worldwide, with approximately 9,500 of those employees in Germany.
As Alstom moves forward with these changes, it remains committed to carrying out the job cuts in a socially acceptable manner, ensuring a smooth transition for all affected employees.
