Local authorities in Almaty temporarily halted the collection of rental fees for 612 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) renting spaces in communal properties from March 20 to June 19 this year.

Almaty authorities have postponed rental payments for small and medium enterprises until the end of the year.

In the heart of Almaty, Kazakhstan, the narrative around small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is shifting, thanks to the Almaty City State Assets Department. Following directives from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, this department has launched a series of support measures aimed at bolstering the SME sector.

Initially, from March 20 to June 19 this year, the department suspended rental calculations for 612 lease agreements for SMEs occupying communal properties. This was followed by a wider suspension, by the end of 2020, of rental calculations for 499 lease agreements for SME tenants in state-owned properties and quasi-state sector facilities. As of September 18, all 420 applications for the suspension of rental payments have been processed.

The Head of State also instructed the suspension of rent for SMEs from September 1 to the end of 2020. Consequently, the Almaty city akimat implemented this, as mentioned earlier.

To cater to the inquiries and needs of SME representatives regarding the lease of state property, the Almaty City State Assets Department launched a virtual consultant, the Telegram bot @CSA_Almaty_bot. This bot can help answer all sorts of questions related to the lease of state property.
