Title: 🚄 Bangkok's Electric Train Network Sets Flat Fare of 20 Baht Per Trip 🚃

Get ready to save big on travels, Bangkok natives! Starting September 30, 2025, a 20-baht fare cap will be introduced across all eight electric train lines operating in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. This initiative is aimed at reducing commuting costs, encouraging public transport use, and easing city congestion and pollution.

Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungreangkit has confirmed that the government's 20-baht electric train policy is full steam ahead. Public registration for the scheme will open in August via the "Tang Rat" mobile application, allowing passengers to pay no more than 20 baht per trip on any of these lines.

The minister emphasized that this move is all about alleviating travel costs for the public and promoting greater use of public transport. Registration will be a breeze, with the minister assuring that there'll be no fuss.

Pichet Kunathammarak, director-general of the Department of Rail Transport, added that the "Tang Rat" app, available on both iOS and Android, will verify Thai nationality through a 13-digit ID number and require either an EMV contactless card (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) or a registered Rabbit Card used for train access.

Those who register after August 2025 will still be eligible for the scheme, but only registered users will receive the benefits. Standard fares will apply to non-registered users. For the first year, passengers might need to carry two cards when switching lines due to current card compatibility issues, but fear not - the fare will still be capped at 20 baht.

The system upgrade to enable QR code fare payments through the app on all lines is expected by late 2026, simplifying the process further. So, mark your calendars and get ready to save on travels with the 20-baht fare cap on Bangkok's electric train network!

The initiative aimed at reducing commuting costs and encouraging public transport use includes a flat fare of 20 baht per trip on all electric train lines, including finance and industry sectors' personnel who rely on public-transit for transportation. In August 2025, registration for this scheme will open through the "Tang Rat" mobile application, allowing eligible individuals to benefit from the reduced fare across various lines.
