Aerial issue on Perm-Moscow flight due to a malfunctioning balloon
Unauthorized Balloon Spotted Near Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport During Aeroflot Flight AFL1201's Landing
A report from aviation incident sources reveals that during the landing of Aeroflot Flight AFL1201 from Perm to Moscow on May 29, 2025, at 13:20 Moscow time, the crew of an Airbus A320 (reg. RA-73770) spotted an unusual blue balloon at approximately 1,800 meters, to the right of their flight path.
An investigation suggested no permit for airspace use had been granted in that area. Upon detection, airport authorities were immediately notified. The incident occurred close to Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow.
As of now, no official records or reports indicate an unauthorized balloon sighting at Sheremetyevo Airport on May 29, 2025, during the landing of Aeroflot Flight AFL1201 from Perm.
It is worth noting that during July to September 2025, the US government carried out tests with high-altitude surveillance balloons over the American Midwest. However, these tests are unrelated to the incident at Sheremetyevo Airport or Aeroflot flights in Russia.
