Accenture plans to purchase cybersecurity firm CyberCX based in Australia for an estimated $650 million.
In a move to bolster its cybersecurity capabilities in the Asia Pacific region, global consulting firm Accenture has announced the acquisition of Australian cybersecurity firm CyberCX. The deal, reportedly valued at over A$1 billion ($650 million), marks Accenture's largest-ever cybersecurity acquisition.
Founded in 2019, CyberCX was built through the merger of 12 smaller cybersecurity companies and has since grown to employ approximately 1,400 cybersecurity professionals. With security operations centers in Australia, New Zealand, London, and New York, the company offers a wide range of services, including consulting, transformation, managed security services, offensive security, and crisis management, among others. CyberCX also utilizes AI-powered cybersecurity platforms.
The acquisition by Accenture is expected to enhance business resilience, critical infrastructure protection, and secure enterprise reinvention as businesses worldwide face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. CyberCX's specialized expertise in areas such as sovereign cloud security, threat intelligence, crisis response, and AI-enhanced platforms complements Accenture's existing services, particularly as client demand for cybersecurity intensifies.
Regarding CyberCX's ties to Optus, a major Australian telecommunications company, while the details are not explicit, CyberCX's expertise in crisis management and threat intelligence is relevant given Optus's significant cyberattacks in 2022. As a leading Australian cybersecurity firm, CyberCX likely engages with key telecommunications stakeholders, including Optus, or operates in environments impacted by such cyber incidents.
The private equity firm selling CyberCX, BGH Capital, has not disclosed any financial terms of the deal. Accenture has also declined to provide additional details about the acquisition.
This acquisition underscores the surging demand for advanced digital security services, with Accenture having completed 20 security acquisitions since 2015, including recent purchases of Morphus, MNEMO Mexico, and Innotec Security.
Recent cyberattacks on Australian companies, such as the 2022 breach at Optus and the hack on health insurer Medibank, have highlighted the need for robust cybersecurity measures. In July, Qantas Airways also disclosed that criminals had infiltrated one of its call centres, accessing personal information of six million customers.
