AAAS Energy & ChillMine Partner for Solar-Powered Data Center in Botswana

AAAS Energy, a Dutch solar park developer, and ChillMine, a Botswana-based tech company, have joined forces to build a world-class solar-powered data center in Botswana. The project, once constructed, aims to sell power on the Southern African Power Pool.

The partnership was sealed with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies. AAAS, with a presence in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Uganda, brings its expertise in solar energy development to the table. ChillMine, founded in 2018, has already made strides in the region, signing an MoU with Zimbabwean IPP Energywise in 2025 for solar-powered data centers.

The new data center will be constructed at the Leupane Energy Hub near Palpye. It will have the capacity to accommodate up to 500MW of solar power and 200MW of gas-fired power generation. The facility will serve AI computing, global hyperscalers, and energy-intensive operations. ChillMine's CEO, Brian Neirby, expressed excitement about the partnership and the project's potential.

AAAS' Managing Director, Maarten Mennes, highlighted the project's connection to sustainable energy development and the digital economy.

The data center, once operational, will contribute to Botswana's digital infrastructure and support the country's green energy initiatives. It will also provide a platform for AAAS and ChillMine to explore further collaborations in the region.
