In the picturesque Bittenfelder Forest, a popular sports path known as "Löhe" has been the centre of a heated debate. Local resident Harald Dürr has accused the city of Waiblingen of wasting taxpayer money and causing damage to nature with the demolition of a bridge on this path.

The bridge, which was fundamentally solid, according to Dürr, a building technician, was demolished with brute force, despite the potential for repair. Dürr claims that only the wooden planking was partly rotten and needed to be replaced, estimating the cost of replacement at around 5,000 euros. In contrast, the city administration reports that the construction of the new gravel path cost around 9,000 euros.

Dürr, who has been experiencing sleepless nights due to the controversy, informed the city administration of Waiblingen about the issue via email but received no response. He also sent photographs of the bridge's condition to various authorities, including the Stuttgart government presidency and the Federal Association of Taxpayers.

The city administration argues that the demolition of the bridge was a more economically viable solution in the long run due to the bridge's need for regular maintenance and potential high costs for renovation. However, Dürr counters that the new path cost 7,000 euros more than a renovation of the bridge.

Local representative Nicole Grüner will present the new path at a public event on September 18. Dürr, who regrets drawing the city's attention to the bridge's condition, as it may have led to its demolition, will also be in attendance. The city administration reports receiving positive feedback about the new path and will host the event to present the new path and provide information about its decision.

Despite the controversy, the name of the mayor of Waiblingen who speaks on the topic of the bridge demolition in the Bittenfelder forest is not explicitly found in the available search results. The current local leader of a Waiblingen district is Markus Felgendreher, but he is an Ortsvorsteher, not the mayor of the entire city.

This ongoing debate highlights the importance of careful consideration and transparency in public projects, as well as the role of concerned citizens in holding their local authorities accountable.
